Artist Statement
Jasmine Bonner
I have always pushed the limits of the fashion norm. As a high school student in the early 1990's, I often confounded my mother with my fashion sense. So what if my shirt was striped and my skirt bright plaid? I saw a connection that made them compatible. My clothing choices are now a bit more compliant with modern fashion, but my contrary mentality is evident in my jewelry designs.
In the midst of complimenting my work, people often say that they find my designs, material combinations and concepts unusual but compelling. I think that is a compliment of the highest regard.
My goal as a jewelry designer is to create fun and functional items that do not fit within mass-production norms. I create one-of-a-kind pieces and occasionally a limited edition piece with a production run of only two or three items. Even then, none of the pieces will be identical.
I do not use any type of formula when creating my jewelry. I put together components that appeal to me while experimenting with color and texture. I rarely have a complete design idea in my head when I start a project. To some degree, I let the medium dictate the final form. It is through this process that I decide what is visually pleasing and learn what is functional, and how best to merge the two.
There is nothing like the feeling of euphoric excitement when you find exactly what you're looking for. My deepest desire is to create beautiful jewelry that causes people to realize they've found the perfect item and it's not what they were looking for at all.
A bit about quality -
I believe that while aesthetics are tantamount, they are useless if the quality of the jewelry is lacking. I use only the finest sterling, Balinese and Thai silver, 14/20 gold fill, Balinese vermeil, annealed artisan lampwork, precious and semiprecious gemstones and Czech glass in my designs. My jewelry is professionally finished, and always guaranteed.
